It does not get much rougher than this.
A full snowstorm rolled in while we were out fishing for cod in the Arctic, the wind picked up hard, and by the end of the day it was a real fight to work the deck and keep filming at the same time.

This is commercial net fishing in Northern Norway at its most raw.

We are deep into the skrei season now, fishing way up north in Finnmark near the North Cape, the most remote corner of Norway.

In this video we run 45 nets across two chains in heavy seas and falling snow, hauling cod after cod as the weather turns against us. The conditions got so bad in the second half that the cameras could barely keep up, but that is exactly what fishing the Arctic in winter really looks like.

Skrei is a type of Arctic cod that migrates down to the Norwegian coast every winter, and fishermen travel from all over the country to chase it. It is cold, hard, beautiful work, and this was one of the toughest and best days of the whole trip: big seas, heavy snow, real action on deck, and a boat working hard in some of the most dramatic scenery on earth.

This is part two of a four part Arctic series following the whole trip from start to finish. New episodes coming over the next few weeks.

Filmed in Finnmark, Northern Norway.
