Brunvoll 2-stroke semi-diesel engines are among the legendary Norwegian engines that were produced for the large fleet of small and medium-sized fishing vessels operating along the Norwegian coast from the early 1900s.

This semi-diesel engine was built in 1947 and bears the serial number 890. Andreas and Anders Brunvoll founded Brødrene Brunvolls Motorfabrikk on Harøya in 1912. In 1918, they relocated the factory to Molde. All the engines they produced were two-stroke semi-diesel engines, and over the years, they manufactured 1,327 engines. In 2013, the factory employed almost 300 people.

The engine featured in the video has been overhauled and is in impeccable condition. It is started every year during the Risør Wooden Boat Festival.

In Norway, domestically produced boat engines are an integral part of coastal culture. 50-60 years ago, the rhythmic sound of semi-diesel engines could be heard along the entire Norwegian coast, from Finnmark and Nordkapp in Northern Norway to Lindesnes in Southern Norway, as far south as one could go.
