In the shadow of a factory that built the fastest train in America, young men who never saw its gates open were selling crack on the corners their grandfathers once walked to work. Nicetown was the engine room of Philadelphia's Workshop of the World — a neighborhood where Navy guns, all-steel car bodies, and Tastykake Krimpets all rolled out of one avenue, and where a man with a stopwatch invented the modern factory itself. Then came a concrete line drawn straight through the rowhouses, a sale to owners who never drove past the plant, and a collapse that handed the blocks to an organization whose recruiting pitch was 'get down or lay down.' This is how a place built on the plainest deal in America watched that deal get withdrawn — and what the empty giants still towering over its corners are waiting to become.

Welcome to the dark history of America — a documentary channel about the empires, towns, and institutions this country built, and what they buried along the way. Each episode is a full history documentary told through real archival footage and photographs: the rise and fall of famous places, forgotten history that never made the textbooks, and vintage America the way it actually looked. This is american history explained through its darkest stories — every dark history documentary is researched from real records and period sources.

New episodes weekly.
