Sweden has just offered India 114 Gripen E fighter jets — with full technology transfer, local production, and a pitch Saab calls one of the most advanced anywhere. The offer lands as India's fighter squadrons sit near 30 against a sanctioned strength of 42, with the MiG-21 retired in September 2025 and the 114-jet MRFA tender still open. This is the story of why Saab is pushing so hard right now, how the Gripen E stacks up against the Rafale already flying in Indian colors, and what New Delhi gains by keeping Sweden in the game.
