More tips I wish I had before we went ????????

A few extra things we’d recommend knowing before you hike:
???? Parking: We parked in Reine and walked to the trail from town. Parking can be limited and pretty expensive, so give yourself extra time to find a spot.

???? One thing that surprised us: you hike up the BACK of the mountain, so you don’t actually get that famous view over Reine until you reach the ridge. It makes the reveal at the top even better. Depending on the wind direction, the mountain can also give you a bit of shelter on the way up, while the ridge itself feels much more exposed.

????️ The ridge isn’t completely paved. There were a few muddy/trickier sections when we were there, but you definitely don’t have to keep going far. Continuing along the ridge mainly helps you get away from the crowds and find your own little spot.

????????‍????‍???????? This is one of the busiest trails in Lofoten, but the stairs are wide enough to easily pass people going the other way, and there’s plenty of space along the ridgeline at the top.

???? Don’t let the 1,978 stairs scare you too much. They’re made from large stones, so they’re a little uneven, but still pretty straightforward to climb. There are no rails, and it is steep, so if heights make you uneasy, poles can help with stability.

☀️ If you’re hiking for midnight sun: the sun doesn’t technically set, but it can disappear behind the mountains much earlier than you expect and still create beautiful sunset-like lighting.
