The Nordkapp Tunnel (Norwegian: Nordkapptunnelen) is the undersea road tunnel that connects mainland Norway to the island of Magerøya, where the North Cape is located.
Key facts:
Length: 6.87 km (4.27 miles).
Maximum depth: 212 meters below sea level.
Opened: 15 June 1999.
Route: Part of the European route E69 highway.
Gradient: Up to about 9–10%, making the descent and climb quite noticeable.
If you're driving to the North Cape, you'll descend steeply into the tunnel, reach the lowest point 212 m below the sea, and then climb back up to Magerøya. The tunnel replaced the former ferry connection and provides year-round road access to the North Cape region.
