If you are driving north in Norway, say to Nordkapp, and you find your self on the E6 road in Gudbrandsdalen, then the alternative route over Venabygd mountain road is the way to go.

According to Google Maps you should save about 16 minutes, but that is not the reason you should drive here. Because the views will make it seam like you only spent half the time.

E6 Ringebu to Folldal to E6 Hjerkinn
or
E6 Hjerkinn to Folldal to E6 Ringebu.
if you are traveling south bound in Norway.

If you drive it up and down it is worth it because you get the beautiful views with another perspective when you change the direction.
